Research Project I and II (INDS315/320)

This component of the final year of the Diploma program is for student to have the opportunity to work on a project separate from Drawing: Advanced I and II and Painting: Advanced I and II. This project could involve drawing, painting, sculpture, photography and video (or a combination). Students will complete a hands-on art project as well as submit a research paper that contextualizes their body of work with historical and contemporary artists Paper will include information based on each student’s practice as well as research on other artists and practices. Completed paper will be 3,000 words in length. Students will work with an advisor (weekly meetings), as well as participate in group critiques with advisor and also critiques by a guest artist mentor. This course is 144 hours in length. It is the equivalent of four regular VISA 12-week courses. Advisor will guide students through the process of writing a research paper and facilitate with student’s progress to develop a strong body of work. Research Project I and II replace the former Advanced Studio I and II. The purpose of this change in curriculum is to reduce the amount of individual courses requirement so graduating students can focus on their own work and context.

The Director will arrange a meeting with all students registered in this offering on the Friday before the semester starts. You will receive an email with meeting time.

One-on-one meetings with advisors will be arranged according to your schedule and the advisor’s schedule. Please keep your Friday afternoons free for group and visiting artist critiques.
