VISA Art Tour of New York City
May 18-May 25, 2018

We are pleased to announce our 2018 Art Tour of New York City which includes SEVEN nights in a hotel, airfare, museum entry fees and museum tours, transportation to and from New York airport, a substantial breakfast every morning and more! Last year's trip was such a great success and so immensely enjoyed by all who attended, that we have decided to do another one next year. We saw so much great and interesting art that it was enough to nourish us for the rest of the year.

Cost $3799 Canadian Funds ($4699 Single Room Supplement)

Cost includes:

  • Artist/instructor tour guides Wendy Welch and Xane St Phillip will share their knowledge about art in New York
  • return flight from Victoria to New York
  • 7 nights accommodation (double occupancy) in the Hampton Inn (North Times Square)
  • breakfasts
  • cocktail reception upon arrival
  • 5 hour "Night on the Town" tour of New York by bus and boat (champagne included)
  • studio visits to artists living in New York
  • admission to all museums included in tour (Museum of Modern Art, MoMa PSI, Metropolitain, Met Breuer, Guggenheim, Whitney, The New Museum and the Drawing Center)
  • guided tours will be included in some of the above museums
  • curated tour of selected Chelsea Art Galleries
  • transportation by shuttle from New York airport to hotel (and return)
  • 18 credit hours for "Art in New York" VISA course
  • $200 tax deductible donation to the Vancouver Island School of Art

Not Included:
  • transportation to and from Victoria aipport
  • lunch: we will mostly be eating lunch as New Yorkers do from street vendors or in museum restaurants
  • dinners: the hotel provides an extensive list of nearby dining establishments (for our last night we will have a picnic in Central Park (15 minute walk from hotel)
  • theatre, music or dance performance tickets
  • transportation from New York airport
  • New York City Metropass: this will give us full access to the New York bus and subway system which will be our main mode of transportation
This New York tour will include visits to other major art museums in New York such as MoMA, MoMA PS1, The Metropolitain Museum of Art, The Guggenheim, the Whitney, the Museum of Art and Design and the New Museum. There will also be a tour of the best Chelsea art galleries. Other places we will visit en route are Central Park, the Strand Bookstore (home to 18 miles of new, used and rare books); Chelsea Market and The High Line.

There will be "free time" factored into the tour for those who might want to spend an afternoon shopping, going on a bus tour or seeing other sites. The last day will be a free day for people to do what they like in New York.

Walking is a wonderful way to get to know New York, so this art tour is walking focused and we will be walking to a few of the venues from the hotel. If you prefer not to walk, then you would have the option to take public transit or a taxi and meet us at the location. Venues that are further than a mile from hotel, we will take public transit.

VISA students as well as the general public are welcome to join us on this tour.

We will be flying via WestJet from Victoria to Toronto, then Toronto to New York. It is possible to book trip departing and returning to/from Nanaimo, Vancouver or Calgary, however extra fees will apply. This is an all-inclusive trip re: flight and hotel so we cannot make exceptions (flight only or hotel only).

To sign up for this trip you need to fill out the Registration Form and make a $300 non-refundable deposit by October 30, 2017. Balance of payment is due January 15, 2018.
