In this course you will learn to think about abstraction in drawing and make the transition from representational drawing to making marks, shapes, forms and textures that combine to create completed works of art. The course will give you a comprehensive background on artists who have used drawing as an abstract language through the 20th and early 21st centuries. You will use a wide range of drawing materials for projects that focus on process, experimentation and innovation. No drawing experience is necessary.

Drawing: Walking & Memory (DRWGs212-18)

Students will use walking as a method for making a series of drawings in this new course. Movement through space will be examined in parallel with mark making; wherein both practices become expressions of embodied knowledge. Students will complete a series of walks and works in class, and present this series in completion at the culmination of the course. Historical context to walking- based practice will be given in a series of informal slideshows and talks. Students will discover how walking can be an exciting source for content in their drawings.
