AUGUST WORKSHOPS
All workshops can be taken for credit towards one of our PROGRAMS (Certificate or Diploma).
Painting Today: Painting Space (PNTG w234-18)
While painting is defined by its flatness, it is often paradoxically able to suggest a variety of interactive spaces, from the window-like framing of illusory space to the projected plane of scale and colour that becomes part of an intimate physical encounter. Artists today continue to play off this dynamic dimension, creating subtle plays on perceptual and imaginary space, while also looking at the way that digital imagery has altered our experience of visual navigation. A great workshop for students who are interested in taking a fresh approach to the challenges of making compositions with a persuasive sense of depth, drama and play. Artists include: Fiona Rae, Julie Mehretu, Eric Fischl, Franz Ackermann, and Matthew Ritchie.
August 20, 21, 22 Mon - Wed, 10am - 5pm

Painting Today: Photographic Influence (PNTG w233-18)
Many artists today are using photographs as source material to influence the content and meaning of their work. The photographic structure and subject often get transformed through the language and process of painting. This workshop explores various ways photography can be used in painting, both as source imagery, and a means of better understanding our relationship to narrative depiction. Artists include: Gerhard Richter, Vija Celmins, Glenn Brown, Richard Prince, Elizabeth Peyton, Karen Kilminik and Marlene Dumas.
August 27, 28, 29 Mon - Wed, 10am - 5pm
