Painting Jumpstart: Weekend Intensive (PNTG w240)

Are you feeling stuck and in need of some fresh insight to push your painting forward? Do you really want to paint again but feeling a little rusty? This hands-on painting intensive will cover strategies to inject new energy into your process. If you have been painting alone, the group dynamic of a class creates a sense of camaraderie through an exchange of ideas. Warm-up exercises at the beginning of each day will shift your attention in a different and new way. Students can bring on-going projects to class or start new ones in the workshop. The instructor will cover issues such as paint handling, palette and composition choices as well as historical and contemporary painting references. Oil and acrylic painters welcome. The Contemporary Botanical (DRWG w239)

In the tradition of some of the botanical drawings from the Renaissance period, students create their own fantastical drawings. The process starts from a photomontage that is then developed into a watercolour drawing and then a scientific diagram. The workshop focusses on the relationship of nature and science in terms of depiction of imagery while at the same time opening up a very imaginative process for all participants.

Archi-Sculpture (MMED w207)

This workshop is an exploration of the crossover between architecture and sculpture. Students discover how architectural design principles can be used in the creation of sculptures, and how artistic objects can be understood as architectural models. Contemporary examples, drawn from both architecture and the fine arts, are discussed and may be used as starting points for participants’ own creative work. Buildings and other structures in Victoria will also be considered for the development idea in artworks. Various suitable materials, and how they may be used creatively, are discussed throughout the workshop. Students design and build their own artistic object(s) and there will be individual mentoring for all participants.
