David was born and raised in Victoria BC, travelled Europe, attended bilingual school in Paris, graduated from St. Michael’s University School and studied at UVic before launching his real estate career 30 plus years ago. His father, the late Don Harvey was a respected artist. In 1961, Don Harvey joined the teaching staff of Victoria College, which subsequently became the University of Victoria in 1966. He was Chairman of the Department of Visual Arts three times and became a Full Professor in 1971. In 1970, he was made a member of the Canadian Royal Academy of Arts; only the second artist in Victoria, after Maxwell Bates, to be so honoured. David's strength to Vancouver Island School of Art is to help raise the profile of the school through various art channels and community partnerships. He understands the value and enrichment that art has for everyone in their every day lives.
