Collage: Paper as Paint

This course or workshop has started, you can book remaining classes.

Discover how arranging, cutting and gluing papers can result in beautiful works of art.

More details

The excitement of collage lies in its use of inexpensive and easily available materials and the immediacy of gluing paper to a surface. Whether you are new to collage or have some experience, you will enjoy the structured and imaginative exercises brought forward each session. This course will introduce you to different ways of using coloured and patterned papers to create a composition as you would do with paint. The focus will be on using both abstract and representational designs based on found and composed shapes. The use of coloured papers is a great way to expand your colour awareness and the development of colour schemes for paintings. Josef Albers, who wrote the Interaction of Colour, was an adamant believer in the “paper palette” to precede the paint palette. The projects will be small works of art in themselves but can also be used as ideas or studies for paintings. WEDNESDAYS, MAY 14 - JUN 18, 2PM - 5PM IN-PERSON
