Painting Today II offers a thematic approach to the hands-on study of painting. This course continues to explore ways that contemporary painters approach fundamental subjects such as everyday life, self and identity, and environment and ritual, through topics such as landscape, cityscape, still life, history painting and social allegory. Class exercises and projects will be supplemented with visual presentations on historical and contemporary artists working within specified themes. The course is inspired by the Tony Godfrey book of the same title (2009, currently out-of-print), and references will be provided for those who would like to explore further.
