Supply List - Tonal Values for Painters
In addition to these mandatory materials, feel free to have on hand any brushes, paints and palettes that you normally use.
Materials for all painters:
- Source material: ideas, inspirations, sketches, photos and/or previous paintings you’d like to revisit/reinterpret
- At least 6 sheets of paper for colour mixing exercises. (Can be an existing sketchbook or pad but the paper you use should be appropriate for your choice of medium
- 1 Pencil
- Palette knife
- Paper towels or shop towels
- At least one prepared surface (already gessoed if necessary) of paper, canvas or board for a final study. I would suggest it be no larger than 12 x 16 inches. You can always make more than one.
Paint (acrylic, oil, or gouache). Watercolourists are also welcome if you don't mind using some white paint.
You must have:
- Burnt Umber
- Titanium white
- Red
- Yellow
- Blue
Thinning and clean up:
For oils you will need some Gamsol (odourless mineral spirits)
For acrylics you will need water
You may also use whatever other mediums you usually use.
