Biography


Desiree deRuiter is a visual artist working in Victoria BC with multiple printmaking techniques as well as sculpture and bookbinding methods. Her work explores psychological forms that are both natural and bizarre. These works resist being known objects and often attempt to retain obscurity, beauty and fragility. Desiree completed a BA in visual arts in 2011. She received second prize from the Victoria Emerging Artist Awards in 2013 and she currently has works with the Vancouver Art Gallery Rentals and Sales and the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair in London, UK. She has shown in solo and group shows locally and internationally, and she has attended residencies at Creative Spark in Dundalk, Ireland and Karuizawa Mokuhanga School in Japan.
