He has worked as an art educator in a wide range of institutions, including The Art Gallery of Ontario, Algonquin College, and the University of Ottawa. He was a finalist in the 2017 RBC Painting Competition and his work is included in the collections of Global Affairs Canada, the City of Ottawa, the City of St John’s, The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery, and the Newfoundland Provincial Art Bank. Discover Kirsten Petersen's background and education. Kirsten had a notable career working on a global scale within the national governments minting industry, developing and marketing national and international coin programs. She has received several international awards recognizing her as a driver of the industry. Experienced in many diverse aspects of the industry, she was chosen to chair The Mint Directors International Marketing Committee for 8 years before retiring. Kirsten has fond memories working with both commissioned artists and the general public to develop designs and product innovations that became part of that nation’s coin heritage. She is particularly proud of the Canada 125 program that was an overwhelming success, so much so that it was copied by multiple countries around the world. During the decades of international travel Kirsten was always happy to come home to Victoria. “There really is no other place like our island. Clean air, nature at our doorstep and the many interesting and kind people.” In addition to enjoying many outdoor activities daily, she has refreshed her life-long artistic endeavours and very much enjoys being a parttime student at the Vancouver Island School of Art. Discover Natasha Van Netten's background and education. Biography Natasha van Netten’s art practice is influenced by zoology, oceanography and cetology (the study of whales). As a multidisciplinary artist, she explores science-based concepts and ideas in a variety of ways, including installation, drawing, painting and sculpture. A personal curiosity towards the natural world is central to her work. Natasha received a Diploma of Fine Art from the Vancouver Island School of Art in 2016. She was honoured to be a recipient of the Robin Hopper Legacy Award from the Victoria Visual Arts Legacy Society, an Award of Excellence at the Sooke Fine Art Show and was selected as a finalist for the 2021 Wildlife Artist of the Year Award by Sketch for Survival (London, UK). Natasha has taught at the Metchosin International Summer School of the Arts. Her work has been exhibited in Canada, the Czech Republic, Finland, Iceland, New Zealand, Norway, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United States. You are also welcome to buy a small set of them. - 1 white eraser Additional Items to be discussed during the first class: - at least 3 oil pastels, your choice of colours - pencil sharpener - 2B and 6B pencil - 10 good quality pencil crayons, example- Faber-Castell or Prismacolor - 2 brushes for ink and watercolour work - black India ink - one bottle of acrylic based ink, Winsor Newton, any colour - 2 different coloured Sharpie markers - Micron pen or similar, 02 - small watercolour set with at least 8 colours, you can also use tubes of colours. Discover Chantal New's background and education. Biography Chantal New is a multidisciplinary artist currently based in Victoria, BC. Her expanded drawing practice takes form across sculptural installation, collage, photography, and the re-contextualizing of found objects. Her most recent body of work is an inquiry into the powerful and complex nature of controlled visuality leveraged in systems of separation and punishment.
