- Paint Like an Artist II
5c19b27e-77bd-4757-8850-790e8575740e Vancouver Island School of Art 302-733 Johnson St, Victoria, BC V8W 3C7 250-380-3500 info@vancouverislandschoolart.com Supply List - Paint Like an Artist II In this course you can choose the painting medium you prefer for each homework project. For in-class painting exercises gouache paint is preferred because most of the artwork we will be looking at is done in acrylic or oil and gouache will yield the closest results to those mediums. In-class demos will use gouache. If you prefer not to buy gouache paint for homework exercises you can use watercolour or acrylics. Also I recommend high-quality watercolour paper for in-class exercises if you want good results. In-class exercises: - Gouache paint: Recommended brand Winsor and Newton Suggested colours: Winsor Red, Primary Yellow, Winsor Blue, Winsor Green, Winsor Violet, Orange Lake Light (you can use other brands and colours but basically get: red, blue, yellow, green, orange and violet as all coloured can be mixed from these) - H pencil, eraser and sharpener - #10 and #4 round brushes, 3/4" flat brush - Arches Watercolour Pad, 9 x 12”, cold press, 100% cotton (or other good quality watercolour paper) Homework projects, suggested materials: - paints (oil, acrylics, watercolour or gouache) in a range of colours -including warm and cool yellow, warm and cool red, warm and cool blue, at least 2 greens, one orange, one violet and large tube of white (for oil or acrylic) - matte medium (acrylic), odourless mineral spirits and walnut or linseed oil for oils - variety of brushes - surfaces to paint on (canvas, panel or paper, depending on paint choice) -you will need at least five surfaces for the course.
