The recommended paint for these exercises is gouache because most of the artists' works we will be looking at in class are done in oil and acrylic and gouache is the easiest medium to get similar effects. If you prefer to do in-class exercises in pastels, watercolour or acrylic, that is fine. You can use what you have. However, the instructor will be using gouache. - Suggested gouache paints: - Winsor Newton Designer Gouache: alizarin crimson, brilliant yellow, ultramarine blue, light purple, orange lake light, titanium white. - If you are on a tight budget you can purchase inexpensive sets of gouache on Amazon. - Watercolour brushes: #12 round and 3/4" flat brush (both synthetic sable) - Watercolour pad: 9 x 12", cold press, 140lb, cotton: I recommend the Arches Watercolour pad (this pad is expensive but the quality is amazing and you only need one pad for all the in-class exercises).
