For in-class painting exercises gouache paint is preferred because most of the artwork we will be looking at is done in acrylic or oil and gouache will yield the closest results to those mediums. In-class demos will use gouache. If you prefer not to buy gouache paint for homework exercises you can use watercolour or acrylics. Also I recommend high-quality watercolour paper for in-class exercises if you want good results.
