    Discover Gary Pearson's background and education. Gary Pearson is an artist and Associate Professor in the Department of Creative Studies at UBC Okanagan, in Kelowna, BC. He is also a freelance exhibition curator, art writer, and author. His exhibition reviews have been published in Canadian Art, Border Crossings, and Sculpture magazine, among other publications. Gary has received numerous grants and awards, including the Vancouver Institute of Visual Arts VIVA award in 1991, and the Okanagan Arts Award in Visual Arts, in 2010. Gary Pearson's personal exhibition history includes solo and group exhibitions in Canada, the US, Australia, and Europe. He is currently involved in a curatorial collaboration and solo exhibition called 1 2 3 Soliloquy for the McMaster Museum of Art, in Hamilton, in 2011. Biography Tony has been working professionally for thirty years as a commercial photographer and is a photo arts graduate (BAPA) from Toronto Metropolitan University . He currently teaches digital photography, iPhoneography and Photo-Based Mixed Media and Collage at University of Victoria Continuing Ed. Tony has also taught workshops at The Coast Collective, The Denman Island Arts Centre, The Old School House in Qualicum Beach, MISSA and “Series” at Red Deer College in Alberta. Over the last 15 years, Tony has worked in several different mediums, including digital artwork, alternative based photography, mixed media, collage and encaustics. His work draws inspiration from his travels, the environment, topographic mapping, satellite photography and medical imagery. Lukas is a reasonable brand with nice vivid colours suitable to this course's approaches A range of warm and cool primary colours. Reds: Alizarin Crimson (cool), Cadmium red hue (Warm) Yellows: Cadmium light hue (W), Lemon Yellow or Hansa Yellow (C) Blues: Cerulean (C) & Ultramarine (W) Raw Sienna and Payne's Grey Watercolour: Similar idea and a similar colour range Acrylic medium Any brand, used for base coats Inks Black ink specifically for fountain pens such as Parker Quink. Higgins also has a reasonable one Three colours of Acrylic Ink (not for Fountain pens-it will clog them!) F&W Liquitex and Golden all make good ones. Red. Cerulean and Ultramarine Blue or similar (so many hues will work) *with paints and inks, I prefer to shop to taste as you would buying shirts or pastries rather than focusing on theory. Brushes Use a variety of rounds and flat synthetic sable brushes for watercolour/gouache Have a large (#10 or #12 ) flat watercolour /gouache brush, #8 rigger, and Princeton 'Dagger" brush Flat 1” acrylic brush to apply acrylic medium Feel free to use what you already have Pens Dip pens - pen holder and speedball C-5, C-6, and Hunt School Nib Black water-soluble felt-tipped pen Sharpie (fat) Surfaces/Paper Look for an 11"x14" or 16"x20" multi-media pad that takes watercolour and ink Plan to repurpose old sketchbooks Palette Plastic palette for mixing paint, (white plastic lids, white plates or disposable palette pad Other Supplies Drawing board (18x24”) 2 Bulldog clips (to hold the paper to the board - optional).     Discover David Good's background and education. David is a plein air painter who finds great inspiration in what he sees and feels in nature. As an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists his paintings can be seen online ( www.davidgoodpainter.com ) and at galleries in Victoria. He has 30 years of experience as a public servant working in Ottawa in the Canadian federal government including several Assistant Deputy Minister positions in central agencies and line departments. For 15 years he was a professor of public policy and public administration at the University of Victoria, teaching, mentoring, consulting, and researching. He is also the author of numerous publications and books in the field of public policy and public sector reform. He is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley (PhD and MPP in public policy), the University of Pennsylvania (Masters in City Planning), and the University of Waterloo (BA in urban and regional planning). When not painting David can be found sailing, skiing, travelling, puttering around his coach house and garden in Rockland, or enjoying time with his family.
