The recommended paint for these exercises is gouache because most of the artists' works we will be looking at in class are done in oil and acrylic and gouache is the easiest medium to get similar effects. If you prefer to do in-class exercises in pastels, watercolour or acrylic, that is fine. You can use what you have. However, the instructor will be using gouache. - Suggested gouache paints: - Winsor Newton Designer Gouache: alizarin crimson, brilliant yellow, ultramarine blue, light purple, orange lake light, titanium white. - If you are on a tight budget you can purchase inexpensive sets of gouache on Amazon. - Watercolour brushes: #12 round and 3/4" flat brush (both synthetic sable) - Watercolour pad: 9 x 12", cold press, 140lb, cotton: I recommend the Arches Watercolour pad (this pad is expensive but the quality is amazing and you only need one pad for all the in-class exercises). Not only did I learn and evolve during the 6 weeks, I also met 6 other artists. The intimate size of the class and the connections we were able to form over zoom was great. We were able to follow along with each other and watch as are works progressed, we were able to have conversations that sometimes extended the class time without us realizing! I enjoyed it and learned so much that I've signed up for another class starting July 8th. Discover David Good's background and education. David is a plein air painter who finds great inspiration in what he sees and feels in nature. As an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists his paintings can be seen online ( www.davidgoodpainter.com ) and at galleries in Victoria. He has 30 years of experience as a public servant working in Ottawa in the Canadian federal government including several Assistant Deputy Minister positions in central agencies and line departments. For 15 years he was a professor of public policy and public administration at the University of Victoria, teaching, mentoring, consulting, and researching. He is also the author of numerous publications and books in the field of public policy and public sector reform. He is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley (PhD and MPP in public policy), the University of Pennsylvania (Masters in City Planning), and the University of Waterloo (BA in urban and regional planning). When not painting David can be found sailing, skiing, travelling, puttering around his coach house and garden in Rockland, or enjoying time with his family.
